A painting study inspired by the less composed side of Belle Époque Parisian painting, with its extravagant colours and visible brushwork. I I wanted this to be really extravagant and bold, with an almost masculine look of the face. A courtesan covered in jewels, but not part of the polished élite.And I wanted the subject to really stare at you, almost demanding a place.
I was particularly interested in the symbolist tendency towards using colour as an expressive tool in its own right.
These are all original, one-of-a-kind pieces, as usual. They are a lovely way to help me keep my art supplies box well fed.
