Description
The name could not be more precise.
“Bovarysme” describes a tendency toward escapist daydreaming, in which the dreamer imagines themselves as the hero or heroine of a romance, deliberately ignoring everyday reality.
This cape embodies exactly that. It draws inspiration from mid-19th century fashion through its dramatic volume, sculptural sleeves, and tight front pleating.
In these photographs, the cape is worn over a thick fleece hoodie (pulled down at the back), sweatpants, and trainers. No corset. No dress. No historical layers. That said, the Bovarysme Cape truly shines when styled with a proper corset, a hoop skirt, or a historical dress.
Pakcing and handling-proof
This cape is not designed for warmth. It offers no insulation or protection from the cold. The fabric is light as a feather and intentionally airy.
This allows it to:
-
Swish and move dramatically with the body
-
Cover a full elliptical crinoline with ease
-
Pack down to minimal volume for travel
These qualities cannot coexist with a heavy or insulating fabric. If you are looking for a warm cape, have a look at this!
Fabric and Materials
The Bovarysme Cape is constructed using twelve meters of dupion fabric in a pink shot blue iridescent shade. The color shifts between purple and bronze tones depending on the light, creating a luminous, almost magical effect.
The fabric is synthetic. This choice:
-
Keeps the price more accessible than the silk counterpart
-
Makes the garment easier to clean and maintain
-
Closely mimics the drape, movement, and hand of silk
In pure silk, the same yardage would more than double the cost.
Construction and Finishing Details
There is no visible topstitching. The entire garment is constructed as a single continuous piece.
Vintage brocade ribbons complete the piece, perfectly matched to the color palette despite being sourced separately.
Fit and Measurements
The cape is designed to fit a wide range of body widths.
Length is approximately 100 cm from the waist down.
How to Wear the Bovarysme Cape
Wearing it is extremely simple.
-
Pull your head through the central opening
-
Tie the two side tapes at the waist
-
Set the shoulders in place
-
Slide your hands into the half sleeves
Done.
It is much easier to wear than it is to explain.
Pricing and Payment Options
Payment can be split into up to three installments through a payment plan.
Limited Availability and Future Designs
Only one additional cape in this series is planned. It will feature oversized 1890s bow-shaped sleeves, possibly a high collar, and will be made in vivid Mexican pink taffeta.
If you are looking for a romantic, harmonious piece rather than something more extreme, this is the one to choose. The Brontë cape is already gone, and there is no guarantee that similar designs will be repeated in the future.
