Description

Study after Jean-Honoré Fragonard – Young Woman with a Garland of Roses
Water-mixable oil on canvas board, 24 cm diameter (9.4 in)

A small round painting study after Fragonard, to study once again the sub-surface scattering, as rendered in the 18th century.

I was interested in pushing the almost confectionery-themed palette of Rococo, and in studying Fragonard’s characteristic handling of skin, hair and flowers. And, once agian, in how prussian blue plays the protagonist in paintings of the time, being just discovered and ragin throughout Europe.

These are all original, one-of-a-kind pieces, as usual. They are a lovely way to help me keep my art supplies box well fed.
