Livia Drusilla dress

Description

Missed out on the Sybil or Athenais gowns? Let the Livia Drusilla dress mend that heartbreak.

Crafted from hand-pleated, upcycled vintage silk sarees, this one-of-a-kind garment doesn’t aim to recreate Greco-Roman fashion, but rather to echo the soft opulence of Victorian painters like Alma-Tadema and Godward, through a modern, poetic lens.

Each dress is a tribute to the visionary work of costume designer Gabriella Pescucci, especially her creations for the Domina series. While not a replica, the silhouette is woven with aesthetic references: wide sleeves, fluid drape, pleated details.

No two are alike. Each gown is made from reclaimed silk, shimmering sometimes with metallic brocade or satin details, adorned with bullion embroidery, or blooming with faded florals. They are intentionally extra-wide, and designed to be styled freely, with ribbons, sashes, or jewels of your choosing.

Low-maintenance and travel-friendly, these dresses require no pressing or steaming. Just twist, store, and go.

This listing is for the gown alone. Ribbons and accessories shown are for styling inspiration only.

Though there are slight size variations among these, they are mostly one size, and are made to be shaped against your unique body with ribbons. Sleeves are wide, the pleats allow most body shapes to fit in comfortably. The length can slightly vary according to the design of the saree to start from.

Available in limited shades*:

* I do my very best to capture the real colors of the sarees, but the can vary from scree to screen.

Caramelized peach – the pleats on this will be both crisp and soft. The silk is in a lovely muted pinkish peach, with lightly shiny ivory motifs. Like salt drizzled over a caramelized clice of peach

Tourmaline waters – a beautiful, paste, cold green. With diagonal stripes as waves rippling on the surface, bringing lighter and darker shades. Soft, but with crisp pleats.

Bejewelled sands – a crisp silk in a sand beige base, with dark red motifs framing gold, green and orange flowers bursting with colors like precious gemstones.

Cerulean frost – a light and soft fabric with a lightly crisp hand, in a beautiful rich sky color with a teal undertone, and ivory brocade motifs of flowers, that to me remind of frost patterns and snowflakes.

Each piece carries the marks of a past life: slubs, slight imperfections, and the patina of time. These are intended as features that give depth to each piece, not markers of faulty pieces. The fabric is natural, therefore it may keep some olfactory memory of where it has lived in the past decades. By purchasing, you understand that this is part of the charm of a vintage item. If you are smell-sensitive, please contact me before purchasing, so I can suggest you the shade that has the most neutral olfactory presence of the currently available.

If you see a shade that speaks to your soul, don’t wait. These cannot be commissioned. Once they’re gone, they belong to someone else’s story.
