Description
The Dracula silk doublet is a red wearable artwork inspired by Eiko Ishioka’s armour designs for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Made from pleated silk dupion transformed through dyeing and structured construction, it combines historical costume references with an armour-like silhouette.
Built around a corset-like foundation, the doublet features layered pleating that creates a structured, sculptural shape while maintaining a relatively smooth appearance. The front closes with inner lacing and outer pearl button detailing, while the neckline is finished with black faceted glass beads. A ruff effect is created with black and white dotted feathers, adding a sharp contrast to the red and pink silk.
The back of The Dracula silk doublet is designed to evoke anatomical structure, referencing the spine and back muscles through construction lines and shaping. Padded elements enhance the hips, while black silk satin bows finish the back.
The sleeves are currently unmounted and are made from matching pinked silk dupion with lining, ready to be completed. Additional fabric components are also included and can be assembled into sleeves and either a skirt or an alternative lower garment.
Raw edges have intentionally been left visible, allowing controlled fraying over time and reinforcing the deliberately unfinished aesthetic.
Status and completion
The Dracula silk doublet is an unfinished piece intended to be completed by its next owner. It already includes the main structural elements, with additional fabric components available for further construction.
Some interior finishing is incomplete, including hemming along the lower structural edge. This is reflected in the price.
Size
The red corset structure fits approximately:
Bust up to 103 cm (40.5 in)
Waist up to 74 cm (29 in), depending on corset adjustment
Concept
This piece was developed over several years but remained unfinished due to time constraints. I am offering it as a creative base for someone who wants to complete and reinterpret the design according to their own vision.
The construction combines historical costume techniques, corsetry, textile manipulation and references to Ishioka’s Dracula costume designs.
Materials
Silk dupion, dyed in red and pink tones
